April 2011

headmaster

Welcome to new readers and hello again to our existing readers. It has been a busy month - again, and of course I am behind with the newsletter. We have been getting many visitors to the website, and we are now achieving more than half a million hits a year, which is very exciting.

We gradually add new content on to the website, and I tend to lose track of what we have added. We have just added a section on the British Empire which was interesting to research. You will find it here. It is amazing how many countries were once part of our proud Empire. Have you also checked out our section on Victorian stamps? You will find it here. Hopefully these pages will be improved and expanded as time and information become available. The next topic I hope to add is on the Great Exhibition. Another page to draw to your attention - one which you might not find - is our testimonials page, and there are some smashing pictures and stories we received from some of the schools we have visited. You will find it here.

Slates seem very popular at the moment. Believe it or not we regularly get enquries from schools wanting large quantities of slates. We now have well over 200 slates in our hire stock, and we also have a similar number of Victorian school uniforms. Not bad, seeing that we have only been going just over a year. We are gradually adding new stock to be available for hire as we see an increasing number of situations where the whole school wants to go Victorian. On another note, we must be the only dunces cap manufacturers in the world! We have been experimenting with designs for the dunces hat as those that go out on hire get rather hard use. We have not quite perfected it, but it is on the way there.

I have prepared and sent this newsletter a different way, which I hope is an improvement. I hope it gets through to you without too many glitches!

New items in the website shop

Not quite so much, this month, but there are a number of new books and DVDs, a few new toys, and a couple of items on our costume page. Most of the items sell well, but for some reason, which we have never fathomed, certain products seem to sell like hot cakes for a time. Fast moving lines include quill pens, scrivenors ink, replica Victorian money, throwing quoits and spinning tops. Costumes sell steadily, as you would imagine, and books are popular in a slow but sure way.
